Summer Seagrass Sleuths
Summer Seagrass Sleuths is a family-friendly summer program offered by the Pensacola and Perdido Bays Estuary Program and is focused on getting folks in the water to see what critters are living amongst the seagrass beds in our estuaries. Our staff will help you run a seine net and go through all the critters that we catch! Please note, this is not a drop off event and parents/guardians must stay with their kids. This session will include special guest scientists from The Nature Conservancy that will highlight their recent seagrass transplant efforts! ITEMS TO BRING: Please wear clothes that can get wet and water shoes, and bring a towel, change of clothes (optional), water bottle, snorkel (optional) and sun protection with you. TIME / LOCATION: The time slot includes a 2 hour program that covers seining and critter identification and optional snorkeling. This ticket is for the noon to 2pm session that requires you to provide your own transportation to the island. Location: Bird Island (south of Robinson Island), Perdido Bay, Orange Beach, AL There is no age requirement to participate, but small children may not be tall enough to run the seine net . They will still have plenty of opportunity to participate using hand nets. There will be no life guard on duty at the park - swim/wade/snorkel at your own risk. ADDITIONAL DETAILS WILL BE SENT TO REGISTERED ATTENDEES 1-2 DAYS BEFORE THE EVENT.
